Canadian cord-cutting accelerates, only 1% of the market

Cord-cutting accelerated significantly in the first half in the Canadian traditional TV market, according to research from Boon Dog Professional Services. The country’s eight large publicly traded pay TV service providers lost almost six times more TV subscribers, combined in the first half, compared to all of 2014. The combined net customer loss in the first half reached 113,700, compared to 19,200 in H1 2014 and 65,000 in all of 2014. The number of cord-cutters is the first half represents 1 percent of the overall market of 11.6 million Canadian homes subscribing to a traditional TV service at the end of June.
