OTT video providers still face challenges in delivering consistent, high-quality video experiences to consumers. They are under pressure to address an ever-growing number of devices while maintaining a smooth video experience without buffering or freezing of the image. They need to offer an attractive user guide and content. They need to ensure they have access to sufficient bandwidth to reach their entire addressable audience. The user experience is seen as crucial to the appeal of OTT, streaming video and on-demand services and as a key differentiator between them. But what aspects of that user experience do consumers value and where are service providers concentrating their efforts? What challenges do operators face in delivering a user experience that meets their consumers’ needs and what solutions are on offer to help them deliver it? DTVE recently surveyed over 140 video senior industry players from 49 countries, including OTT service providers, multi-play and TV operators, pay TV channel providers and free-to-air broadcasters, to find out their views on how central the user experience is to the success or failure of their services. The resulting report, which is now available to download free of charge, provides a compelling snapshot of operators’ and rights-holders’ views on the challenges they face in delivering a compelling user experience and how to optimise it.
